The Wipeout Team

In his younger days Mark, the shop owner, was given many chances to experience different watersport activites. Thanks to his parents, friends and their contacts he was given opportunities, that not many people get, to improve his skills and try out all sorts of sports.

Now he works in the business and is able to put back into the industry what he took out. Below are three up and coming stars to the industry that reflect Marks dedication and he is proud to put the Wipeout name behind them and support them in any way he can.

Heather Slater

I have been canoeing for just four years now and am 16 years old. I first started canoeing with my school on the recreational side, and then I joined Green Star Canoe Club in 2002 and started taking part in Slalom events in October 2003.
Since then I have been promoted from Division 4 to Division 1 in Women's K1 Slalom and Division 2 C1 (against all the men!!!). I am competing this year for a place in the GB Junior Slalom Squad in the K1L J17 class over three weekends at HPP Nottingham, Grandtully Scotland & Tryweryn in North Wales.

I also was part of the Ladies GB Under 21 Canoe Polo Team 2003/04 and again for 2005 again the equipment recommended has helped me train in all weather conditions.
On a very cold day in November 2004 I competed in the Tyne Tour Race in Northumberland, a gruelling 13.5 mile sprint from Wark to Hexham on grade III/IV water and finished 1st female paddler and 2nd overall in the kayak class in a time of 2hrs 07mins 48secs.
I train as often as I can, on a Monday I go training at St James pool in Doncaster for Polo, Tuesday I go to Holme Pierrepoint at Nottingham for Slalom, Wednesday's polo at Hatfield Water Park in the summer, Thursday I train at Hatfield WP for Slalom, and on Saturday and Sunday I am all over the country competing in Slalom and Polo competitions or training so I can do my best at these events and in the holidays I go play boating at Tees Barrage, Washburn, Sleningford etc.
I am a level 2T recreational coach, a level 1 slalom coach & a level 4T polo referee, I have also received training on using Medicine & Swiss balls so I can assist the dry training session's at the club and have sports coach UK qualifications.
I could not do all of this if I did not have the support from everyone at Wipeout and Green Star Canoe Club and especially from Esther Mathews who puts all her time into helping to get everyone up to the great standards that they are now and what they will be in the future.

Tim Gibson

Tim is a watersports instructor at Carsington water, and the last two years have seen him prove himself in the raceboard world. He was first taken by windsurfing in 1985 and as a youth competitor he produced several notable results.

He retired from competitive windsurfing for 6 years due to college and subsequent employment, but windsurfing was still in his blood and his marketing career was pushed to one side in favour of the water.

1999 saw his return to racing and hard training. Proving he had made the right decision he won his first national event and finished overall 3rd in the national series in 2001.

2002 saw Tim fighting to hold the overall lead
from the third of nine events. He took first place at four meetings,
including a clean sweep at Christchurch, where he was unbeaten in all
six races. Despite Tim’s apparent domination, competition was close and
the series went right to the wire in gale force winds at the Wight Air
Festival on the Isle of Wight at the end of October

2002 also saw the world championships come to Largs, nr Glasgow. This was Tim's 1st international campaign and due to his hard work and determination, as well as a grant from the RYA and UKWA and sponsorship from us he came home in third place.

The unlimited fleet will be Tim’s target for the 2003 season,
accompanied by a number of his old adversaries from the 7.5m fleet. He
is currently in negotiations with potential sponsors and is quietly
confident of making an impact in the coming year.
